Kiki Smith Owl and Pussycat 2002 Pigment on cotton sateen Appx. 24” x 12” x 2” Publisher: The Fabric Workshop and Museum Unique, number 18 from an unknown edition size
Designed like a traditional flip doll, this whimsical creature is a cat on one end and when its skirt is flipped over its head an owl is revealed, complete with little wings. The concept of the Owl and Pussycat flip doll draws from the 1871 nonsense poem about two unlikely sweethearts-an elegant owl and a beautiful cat by Edward Lear. Each doll is unique, made of hand sewn, silk-screened fabric designed by Smith.
