Weaving Through Walls
Susan Tennant

christopher west presents is pleased to announce Weaving Through Walls, a new installation by Indianapolis-based Susan Tennant. Tennant's sculptures and installations use the physical properties and characteristics of tension to represent a metaphorical connection between the physical and the psychological. The fiberglass rods and twine are lightweight and seemingly fragile, but possess great compressive and tensile strength for defining and holding together the intertwined circles and orbits of her sculptures.

Some interpret the flowing gestural lines of Tennant's sculptures with a certain amount of playful intention. The artist, however, wants the viewer to recognize how the structural forces and fluid lines inherent in the forms can give the work a physical and emotional edge.

Tennant received her B.F.A. in Ceramic Art and Design from S.U.N.Y.'s Alfred University and her M.F.A. from Herron School of Art and Design, Indianapolis. She currently is an Associate Clinical Professor in Media Arts & Science at the I.U. School of Informatics. This is her first exhibition at the gallery.
